Rose Cherussery (she/her) is a two-time EdTerp and current doctoral student in the Language, Literacy, and Social Inquiry program. She also serves in the department of Teaching & Learning, Policy & Leadership as an Instructor, Graduate Research Assistant, and Supervisor. Before beginning her graduate studies, Rose was an elementary and middle school teacher in her home state of Maryland where she taught in both the public and private school sectors. Her time as a classroom teacher and teacher leader was mostly spent in special education teaching bright children who learn differently. While a graduate student, Rose recognized a greater need to support teachers, families, and communities and felt called to lead through activism. In 2018, Rose founded an education-based community called Classroom for Change. Through her work and activism, Rose continues to demonstrate her commitment to lifelong teaching and learning and is focused on advancing education through changemaking research, policy, and practice. Shortly after earning her master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Literacy Education and Teacher Leadership from the ÉòоÓïÀÏʦ¼Ò·ÃÂ黨ÊÓƵ in 2020, Rose returned to the College of Education to work with undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in teacher preparation programs as a lecturer and member of adjunct faculty. Now, while pursuing a Ph.D. in Literacy Education, Rose finds joy in her role as a reading methods instructor where she creates educational environments that promote teacher and student agency, center social justice, and are conducive to culturally responsive and sustaining teaching and learning. Her work with preservice teachers has been a driving force in her educational journey and she finds hope and inspiration in the knowledge, skills, and experiences that the next generation of teachers brings to the field of education. Rose is honored to be part of a thriving academic community of fearless Ed Terps and she looks forward to making a lasting contribution to literacy research as a developing scholar and leader in education.
